Short But Sweet Safari
Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti
Overview
On this 3-day wildlife safari itinerary, you will encounter a wide variety of African wildlife in the midst of some of Tanzania’s most diverse landscapes – monkeys and lions in the trees of Lake Manyara, elephants amongst the acacias of the Tarangire, and Africa’s “Big Five” in the awe-inspiring Ngorongoro Crater.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Moshi/Arusha to Tarangire National Park
In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in Moshi/Arusha and driven to the first stop on your itinerary – Tarangire National Park. Known for its very large elephant population, you are likely to witness many herds during this game drive.
As you drive around the seasonal swamps and savannahs surrounding the park’s famous Tarangire River (to which it owes its name) you will also come across many zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, hartebeests, giraffes and waterbucks. With a bit of luck, you may also encounter a rare (but not impossible!) sighting of lions stalking their prey or leopards lazily lying in the trees above.
After your full afternoon game drive in Tarangire National Park, you will be driven to a nearby campsite, or lodge/permanent tented camp, where you will stay for the evening (depending on the accommodation plan you choose).
Meals included: Lunch, Dinner
Day 2 – Tarangire Area to Ngorongoro Crater
After an early breakfast, you will leave the Tarangire Area and head to the Ngorongoro Crater via the Rift Valley. Inside the world’s largest volcanic caldera, you will find a haven of African wildlife, including the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard. The various springs found on the crater floor attract animals such as wildebeest and gazelles, and more than 500 bird species. After lunch by the hippo pool, you will enjoy some more wildlife game viewing before driving to your campsite or lodge/permanent tented camp on the crater’s edge for your overnight stay.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 3 – Ngorongoro to Serengeti to Moshi/Arusha
Early risers will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the sunrise over the Ngorongoro Crater. After breakfast, you will make your way to Lake Manyara National Park, a small but diverse park 120km from Arusha. The park is most famous for its alkaline lake, which covers a large area of the park. Time the season right and you’ll be rewarded by sights of thousands of flamingos and over 500 other bird species. On your exploration of the park you will see monkeys, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, elephants and with some luck, lions lounging in the trees. In the afternoon, you will return to Arusha or Moshi, where your safari ends.
