Climb Mount Meru Tanzania

Mount Meru Climb Itinerary

Mount Meru is the second highest mountain in Tanzania and the fifth highest in Africa. The mountain is a spectacular dormant volcano that offers a challenging and rewarding experience.  Along the way, trekkers pass through montane forests into a high altitude alpine desert with stunning views of the dormant volcano’s Ash Cone and Mount Kilimanjaro.

Located in Arusha National Park, with the Momella Lakes close to its foot, Mount Meru boasts diverse flora and fauna, and you may even be lucky enough to spot some of Tanzania’s wildlife, such as zebras and buffalo, on your way up. Some climbers even consider it a more scenic hike than Mount Kilimanjaro.

The mountain is unspoilt and less congested compared to Mount Kilimanjaro and is a great alternative for climbers looking for a more affordable trek. There is one route up and down the mountain. Climbs can take between 3 to 4 days, although we would always recommend the longer route for a successful and enjoyable climb.
