Day 1: Moshi - Maasa Village

  • Distance – Approximately 28km
  • Terrain – Off road/ dirt roads
  • Pick-up time – 7am
  • Difficulty – Moderate
After breakfast, we will pick you up from your hotel in Moshi/Arusha and begin your epic bike adventure. On your way to your first stop at the Maasai Village, you will cycle through African bushland witnessing dried-up river beds, the famous African Baobab and Acacia trees, and beautiful sugar cane plantations that go on for miles. Once arriving at the Maasai Village, you will be greeted by your English-speaking guide who will take you on a tour of their bomas (homes). Whilst you walk through the village, you will get the chance to mingle with the Maasai while learning more about their culture. This will include a lesson on traditional Maasai medicine and how they use what nature provides to treat ailments and make everyday items. In the early afternoon, you will leave the village and continue to the Hot Springs, which are near the village of Rundugai. Hidden among the twisting fig trees, lies the natural warm water spring. This gorgeous little oasis is one of Tanzania’s many hidden gems and is a great spot for relaxing and swimming after your long bike ride! There is a swing from which the adventurous can jump into the water, or you can simply bathe in the crystal clear waters that are heated by volcanic activity. On a clear day, you might also be lucky enough to get stunning views of both Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru! After enjoying a refreshing swim, you will then be treated to lunch before returning to Moshi in the late afternoon.
