Shira Plateau day hike begins at 3,407m and takes you through the shrub-steppe on the lower slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. You’ll hike for approximately 2 to 3 hours, with a little elevation gain to 3,610m, to Shira Base Camp which is used by people trekking the world’s tallest freestanding mountain.
Kilimanjaro day hike involves going up to the first camp Mandara hut (2720m) and come back via the same route on the same day. There is a drive about 45km from Moshi town which will take 1 hour.
